Shock therapy has been amazing for many sufferers of clinical depression, but it’s terribly invasive and causes memory disturbance.

In the last mental illness piece I wrote, I spoke about a new science that is going to revolutionize the medical industry, especially in mental healthcare. It’s called Pharmacogenetics, and it is especially effective for matching the right drug to the right patient. I’m most excited how it will stand to help those whose depression is treatment resistant. In this one, I’ll be talking about another major innovation which will greatly reduce the epidemic of adverse drug reactions, among many other problems.

These mental illness blogs have been based around a brilliant new book, just published on May 4th, called We Can Do Better. It was written by Professor David Goldbloom at the University of Toronto.

And he mentioned one incredible innovation that is seeing tremendous results. I know, I know, it’s another one of those medical acronyms (you know how they love those). It’s called rTMS, or Rapid Transcranial Magnetic stimulation.
